Great scholarship, Amy. I have a passion for sewing as well. I'm including the last paragraph from one of your sources because it identifies the photo as the sculptor, Edmonia Lewis. "Boone died on October 29, 1904 at age 72 of Bright’s disease and is buried in the Evergreen Cemetery in New Haven. She left no papers or letters and the image attributed to her on the web is often of sculptor Edmonia Lewis. However, her patent casts a spotlight on an extraordinary life, signaling that in the 19th century there was a black woman inventor living in New Haven, and her name was Sarah Boone."
